Job description
Overview
The Director of Power Train Technical Business Development at Vertiv leads the technical pre-sales efforts for power infrastructure solutions tailored to global strategic Hyperscale, Neo-Cloud, and Multi-Tenant Data Center (MTDC) customers. This pivotal position combines extensive expertise in electrical power systems with strong client engagement to establish Vertiv as the preferred basis of design for power architectures in critical data center environments.
Role Scope and Focus
The role encompasses comprehensive power train components, including utility entrance, medium voltage switchgear, transformers, AC and DC UPS systems, static transfer switches, power distribution units like PDUs, RPPs, busway, and battery or energy storage systems. As data center facilities scale massively and AI workloads demand higher power density and steadfast reliability, this position is instrumental in shaping Vertiv's approach to next-generation power challenges.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical engagement with strategic customers to influence and design power system architectures positioning Vertiv’s power offerings as the foundation.
- Collaborate with customers to create power strategies that manage current and future requirements for capacity, density, and reliability.
- Facilitate whiteboard sessions with CTOs and engineering teams to compare AC/DC power topologies, redundancy, and modular versus traditional solutions.
- Engage early in customers’ design cycles to influence power system requirements ahead of RFPs.
- Maintain deep knowledge of Vertiv’s full power portfolio and articulate system-level designs from utility feed through to rack power distribution.
- Coordinate product and solution alignment with roadmap strategies and pursue innovation addressing efficiency and sustainability demands.
- Work jointly with leadership across sales, product management, and engineering to advance power train thought leadership and reference architectures.
- Build strong relationships with external design firms and consultants to impact power system specifications.
- Capture and relay market insights, product gaps, and industry trends to Vertiv’s Power Business Unit and product teams.
- Represent Vertiv in industry forums, trade events, and publications, strengthening the company's position as a power innovation leader.
- Lead and mentor a geographically dispersed team of power domain experts, promoting collaboration and cross-disciplinary learning.
- Travel extensively to meet with strategic clients and global teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline; advanced degrees such as an MBA or MS are highly valued.
- Over a decade of progressive experience in technical business development or power systems engineering with at least five years in senior roles influencing enterprise power strategy.
- Expertise in data center power infrastructure, including UPS, medium voltage distribution, energy storage, and integrated power systems, with a proven record influencing strategic accounts globally.
- Strong track record of driving business results through technical strategy, including revenue growth and increased market share.
- Comprehensive hands-on knowledge of power system technologies—AC/DC UPS, switchgear, busway, static transfer switches, batteries, energy storage systems, and power monitoring/control solutions.
- Management experience with dispersed teams and ability to influence cross-functional leadership and global product lines.
- Recognized presence in industry standards organizations (IEEE, NFPA, Uptime Institute) and ability to effectively represent Vertiv externally.
- Exceptional communication skills for engaging C-suite executives and conveying technical and commercial objectives.
