Job Overview

As a Director of Software Engineering at J.P. Morgan's Corporate Technology division in Glasgow, you will guide multiple feature teams to ensure their efforts align with the company’s strategic goals. Your leadership will encompass project oversight, fostering innovation, and upholding high engineering standards, while mentoring engineers and collaborating with key stakeholders to influence the technological direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct feature teams in Glasgow, aligning their objectives with organizational vision.
  • Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of software products leveraging a variety of technologies.
  • Maintain excellence in software quality, reliability, security, and performance through adoption of industry best practices.
  • Set governance and strategic direction for agentic AI-enabled engineering and automation across the software development lifecycle and test lifecycle management to drive speed, quality, and operational enhancement.
  • Utilize software development tools and enterprise-authorized AI-driven automation to increase automation value and scale capacity unlocking initiatives.
  • Efficiently document software issues and resolve bugs.
  • Partner with engineering leads, product owners, and solutions architects to deliver user-centered solutions.
  • Mentor and provide constructive feedback to engineers for their professional and skill development.
  • Assess, recommend, and introduce new technologies, tools, and methodologies.
  • Develop and manage technical documentation and reporting.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Comprehensive understanding of cloud-native system architecture and design.
  • Strong strategic mindset with interest in business processes and strategies.
  • Capable of making well-informed architecture decisions consistent with enterprise principles and operational needs.
  • Deep knowledge of software engineering disciplines, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple projects and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in functional and object-oriented programming, especially Scala, Java, Python, and adept with open-source frameworks such as Apache Spark.
  • Experience with software engineering and project management tools like Git, Jira, and Agile frameworks.
  • History of leading the integration and adoption of agentic AI-enhanced engineering practices across teams, including overseeing quality gates, validation, and secure management of sensitive data.
  • Strong grasp of ethical AI usage, secure handling of sensitive data, resiliency and governance within engineering workflows, and capability to guide leadership on safe scaling and reuse methods.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging expertise.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as Databricks.
  • Familiarity with data analytics and machine learning frameworks and tools.
  • Certifications in software engineering, project management, or related disciplines.
  • Knowledge of emerging cloud serverless managed services.
  • Experience implementing cloud data security solutions.
