Our client is a private, multifaceted infrastructure and construction firm with over five decades of experience and a solid reputation throughout Ontario, expanding its footprint into Western Canada. It operates in a dynamic, project-driven environment with a workforce exceeding 500 employees across multiple divisions.
Amid steady organic growth and an acquisition-driven strategy, the organization seeks an adept Director of Human Resources to spearhead the advancement of the HR function.
Role Overview
Reporting directly to the President and as part of the senior leadership team, the Director will serve as a strategic advisor and constructive challenger concerning organizational, talent, performance, and people-related issues. The role is primarily based at the corporate head office in Vaughan, Ontario, and requires significant presence onsite to foster close collaboration with business units.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and implement a comprehensive, multi-year HR strategy aligned with corporate goals, growth initiatives, and individual business unit needs.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and support change management, restructuring, and new process implementation.
- Lead organizational design, workforce planning, and succession planning to ensure talent readiness for current and future business demands.
- Drive HR activities in mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence, integration planning, leadership assessment, and aligning HR policies and systems.
- Develop and execute scalable recruitment programs, manage external recruitment partnerships, and oversee performance management and talent development efforts.
- Maintain and enhance a positive employee experience and company culture grounded in safety, accountability, collaboration, and integrity.
- Oversee total rewards strategies focusing on competitive and compliant compensation and benefits programs.
- Leverage HR technology, AI, and automation to optimize processes and enhance reporting and analytics for leadership decision-making.
- Ensure governance, compliance with legislation, and lead the HR team with a service-focused approach while partnering with Health & Safety teams.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; CHRL designation is beneficial.
- A minimum of 12 years of progressive HR experience, including 5-7 years in leadership roles.
- Proven expertise within complex, multi-site, multi-business environments, preferably in construction or operationally intense industries.
- Comprehensive HR leadership background across organizational and workforce planning, talent acquisition, performance management, rewards, employee relations, and HR operations.
- Experience building or enhancing HR capabilities in growing organizations with strong technical knowledge of HRIS, analytics, AI, and automation.
- Skilled in change management and experienced in acquisition due diligence and integration orientation.
- Strong communication, leadership, coaching, influence, and executive-level advisory capabilities complemented by high emotional intelligence.
- Adaptable and pragmatic leadership style effectively balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution in an entrepreneurial, family-founded multi-entity context.
