About the Organization
Our client is a family-owned, global player in the food and beverage sector with quick-service restaurant operations across multiple countries, including Canada. They manage a growing portfolio of internationally recognized brands with a culture focused on growth and entrepreneurship. Investment in people, operational capabilities, and finance systems supports their expanding international footprint across various entities, brands, jurisdictions, and currencies.
Position Overview
We are recruiting a Director, Finance to join the Canadian finance leadership team. This role focuses heavily on strengthening financial reporting and controllership for the organization’s Canadian business, chiefly managing the largest brand portfolio. Reporting to the VP, Finance and CFO, this position is responsible for entity-level and brand-level financial reporting, cash forecasting, and strategic financial insights for senior management.
This leadership role is geared towards an experienced accounting and finance professional with strong technical and commercial acumen within a complex, multi-entity environment. Although the primary focus is on Canadian controllership functions, there is significant potential to expand into group-level FP&A, commercial finance, M&A, and broader strategic finance roles over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead financial reporting efforts across all Canadian legal entities, delivering accurate and timely financial statements monthly, quarterly, and annually.
- Ensure consistent accounting policies, controls, and reporting processes throughout Canadian operations.
- Analyze financial results by investigating key variances, trends, and anomalies to maintain data integrity.
- Collaborate with senior leadership including VP, Finance and CFO to align Canadian reporting with group standards.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, advisors, and other financial stakeholders.
- Drive improvements in financial controls, reporting processes, and infrastructure to enhance accuracy and scalability.
- Develop and maintain brand-level financial reporting to provide leadership visibility into operating and financial performance.
- Analyze budget, forecast, and historic performance of brands to identify key financial drivers and support actionable insights.
- Maintain alignment between entity-level accounting and brand management reporting.
- Own and update cash flow forecasts across Canadian entities, monitoring liquidity, working capital, and funding needs.
- Partner on treasury activities and liaise with banking partners as required.
- Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and planning processes, including financial analysis and scenario modeling in partnership with operational leaders.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives such as M&A, finance transformation, system implementations, and process improvements.
- Prepare to take on broader group-level finance responsibilities as the role and organization evolve.
Candidate Profile
- 8 to 12+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with substantial controllership or financial reporting leadership.
- Strong expertise in technical accounting and financial reporting across multiple legal entities or business units.
- Proficiency in entity-level and management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Experience with cash flow forecasting and managing working capital.
- Demonstrated analytical skills to identify core financial performance drivers.
- Familiarity working with external auditors and professional advisors.
- Experienced managing finance in multi-entity, multi-location, or complex operational environments.
- ERP experience is required; knowledge of Sage or Sage Intacct is advantageous.
- Exposure to finance transformation or ERP implementations is a plus.
- CPA designation or equivalent professional accounting qualification preferred.
- Effective communicator comfortable engaging senior executives and operational leaders.
- Hands-on approach balancing strategic oversight and detailed execution.
- Previous experience in restaurant or food and beverage sectors is not mandatory.
Opportunity Highlights
This role offers ownership over Canadian financial controllership and reporting across multiple brands and legal entities. Candidates will gain broad exposure to the Canadian business and will have the scope to evolve into FP&A, commercial finance, M&A, and higher-level finance leadership roles as the organization expands.
