Role Overview

The Director, Data Engineering plays a strategic leadership role across multiple teams, steering long-term planning and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. This position is responsible for functional or geographic strategy development, managing complex initiatives, operational plans, budgets, and talent development within McKesson's enterprise framework.

Key Responsibilities

• Formulate and implement functional strategies aligned with broader enterprise objectives.
• Lead cross-departmental initiatives to improve operations through programs, tools, and technology deployment.
• Manage integrated project portfolios with focus on timely delivery and risk reduction.
• Guide governance efforts, setting standards, performance metrics, and compliance guidelines.
• Drive continuous enhancement in processes and service performance using analytics and data-driven insights.
• Oversee financial planning including budgets, forecasts, and cost efficiency measures.
• Manage vendor relationships including contract negotiations and service-level agreements.
• Lead workforce and organizational planning including talent development and succession strategies.
• Provide leadership during change management efforts to ensure smooth adoption of transformation initiatives.
• Act as a thought leader by analyzing trends, advising senior leadership, and driving strategic innovation.

Required Expertise and Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of functional operations, program governance, and strategic planning in complex enterprise settings.
• Strong financial acumen with experience in operational controls and performance measurement.
• Proven leadership managing multi-team portfolios and advising executives and senior leaders.
• Expertise in organizational change leadership, design, and workforce strategy.
• Excellent communication and executive storytelling abilities for influential presentations.
• Demonstrated influencing skills and partnership-building to align multiple stakeholders.
• Strategic analytical capabilities to resolve complex business challenges.
• Experience managing vendor ecosystems, contracts, and service performance.
• Behavioral competencies consistent with senior leadership roles including change advocacy, customer orientation, collaboration, decision-making, innovation, communication, and servant leadership.
• Capacity to initiate innovation and lead enterprise-wide process improvements and transformations.

Technical Expertise

• Mastery of Azure Data Platform components such as Data Factory, Synapse, ADLS, Event Hubs, and Cosmos DB.
• Technical proficiency with Databricks technologies including Delta Lake, MLflow, and unified batch/stream processing.
• Experience with modern data architecture handling both structured and unstructured data.
• Hands-on skills using Python, Scala, SQL, and Spark for distributed data processing and engineering with infrastructure-as-code automation.
• Knowledge of enterprise data product development and semantic layer engineering.

Professional Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with typically over 12 years of relevant professional experience.
• At least 4 years of experience in leadership roles managing multiple teams or disciplines delivering complex cross-functional projects.
• Extensive background in strategic planning, governance, financial oversight, and enterprise program management.
• Experience managing senior stakeholders and developing leadership pipelines at scale.

Additional Information

McKesson provides a total rewards package focusing on employee well-being across physical, mental, and financial aspects. Compensation is competitive and considers performance, experience, skills, equity, market evaluations, and location. The base salary range for this role is €91,500 to €152,500, supplemented by potential bonuses and long-term incentives.
