Role Summary

The Director, Cloud Engineering will oversee strategy, operations, security, governance, and financial management of Magnet's cloud platform alongside shared engineering services. This position collaborates across departments including Engineering, Product, UX, Security, IT, Compliance, Finance, and Go-to-Market to enable rapid product innovation while ensuring world-class reliability, security, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.

This position merges profound technical knowledge, operational excellence, cloud strategy, AI enablement, FinOps discipline, vendor oversight, and leadership. Responsibilities include managing teams in cloud infrastructure, platform operations, observability, identity services, CI/CD, compliance, and cost management for Magnet's SaaS offerings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Devise and implement cloud platform strategies supporting SaaS products and long-term business goals.
  • Drive operational excellence encompassing service reliability, observability, incident response, disaster recovery, and platform governance.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to deliver scalable, highly available cloud services.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance platform consistency, maturity, and team effectiveness.
  • Champion architectural standards and engage in governance and architectural reviews.
  • Ensure cloud platform meets security and compliance frameworks like FedRAMP, partnering with security and compliance teams.
  • Manage vulnerability remediation and platform-wide security operations.
  • Anticipate and strategize for regulatory and sovereign cloud requirements globally.
  • Govern cloud financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and optimization across the company.
  • Introduce automation tools to improve financial transparency and forecasting accuracy.
  • Promote a balance between innovation, performance, and cost governance.
  • Lead responsible AI adoption, governance, and operational enablement across engineering and services.
  • Manage vendor selection, negotiation, relationships, and software licensing agreements.
  • Build and mentor high-performing engineering teams fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Enhance developer experience by reducing obstacles, improving tooling, and enabling self-service platform features.

Required Qualifications

  • Over 10 years experience in software engineering, cloud or platform engineering, or related technical fields.
  • At least 5 years in leadership roles managing engineering managers or technical teams.
  • Strong expertise in public cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
  • Experience with private cloud infrastructure management.
  • Proven history operating large-scale SaaS platforms in production.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of cloud security, compliance, governance, and risk management.
  • Experience in cloud financial management including budgeting and cost optimization.
  • Track record leading strategic cross-functional projects.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and executive presentation abilities.
  • Experience managing technology vendors and strategic partnerships.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with FedRAMP, SOC 2, ISO 27001 or similar compliance frameworks.
  • Experience setting up platform engineering or developer experience groups.
  • Knowledge of AI and machine learning infrastructure and governance.
  • Expertise in identity and access management initiatives.
  • Understanding of observability, cloud operations, and reliability engineering.
  • Background in growing SaaS organizations.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range offered is CAD 200,000 to 250,000 annually, varying based on location, qualifications, experience, and skills. This may include base plus variable incentives. Benefits include:
