Role Overview

The Direct Support Professional will deliver supervision, guidance, and training to individuals with diverse abilities in a day program setting. The candidate will foster an environment that supports the development of social skills and positive behaviors, ultimately enhancing life skills and encouraging community involvement and presence.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise, guide, and instruct individuals in day service settings, including personal care, medication administration, behavioral interventions, employment assistance, and training.
• Plan and carry out person-centered activities aimed at promoting positive outcomes for participants.
• Maintain up-to-date records such as service goals, attendance, behavioral data, progress notes, and reports.
• Provide transportation for service recipients following safety policies.
• Ensure health, safety, and well-being of individuals according to their service plans and agency policies.
• Build and sustain positive relationships with participants, their families, coworkers, and community members.

Qualifications and Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
• Understanding of learning and behavioral processes preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old with a valid Connecticut driver’s license, a clean driving record, and access to a personal vehicle as per company policy.
• Familiarity with person-centered, outcome-based service models, company policies, regulatory standards, and community resources.
• Competence in implementing individual support plans and communicating professionally and courteously in writing and speech.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role including prolonged standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and driving multi-passenger vehicles.

Physical Demands

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, balance, climb, reach above shoulder level, push/pull, squat, and crouch as needed during work. Occasional lifting and carrying individuals of varied weights with assistance is required.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay rate: $19.50 per hour. Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM (40 hours per week), non-exempt position.
