Job description
Role Overview
Arturo Palomba Gallery LLC in Doha, Qatar is looking for a Digital Art Conservation and Technology Manager to lead the preservation, documentation, and long-term management efforts for digital, AI-generated, and interactive artworks. This permanent full-time, onsite role provides an opportunity to develop professional systems ensuring technological artworks remain authentic and functional over time by collaborating with artists, curators, collectors and technical experts.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and implement preservation strategies tailored to digital and technology-based art pieces.
- Document and manage technical dependencies including software and hardware requirements.
- Maintain comprehensive technical records of digital and interactive artworks.
- Coordinate conservation efforts for AI-generated and generative art.
- Develop standardized protocols for software-driven and time-based media.
- Work closely with artists to record installation and conservation needs.
- Manage migration processes of digital assets to newer platforms as technologies become obsolete.
- Assist collectors with the acquisition of complex technological artworks.
- Establish digital condition-reporting procedures for the collection.
- Oversee secure storage solutions, backups, and version control.
- Provide guidance to exhibition teams regarding installation and technical setups.
- Collaborate with museums, conservators, registrars, and tech specialists to share expertise.
- Conduct research on emerging digital art conservation standards and best practices.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Degree in Conservation, Museum Studies, Digital Humanities, Computer Science, Fine Arts or a related field.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in relevant areas.
- Experience handling digital, video, software-based, or interactive artworks.
- Solid understanding of digital preservation techniques and documentation practices.
- Excellent organizational, technical, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with artists and technical professionals.
- Professional working command of English.
- Willingness and ability to relocate to Doha and undertake international travel.
