About the Role
Join our esteemed team as a Diamond Assorter based in Kolkata. Your key responsibility will be to meticulously sort, grade, and categorize diamonds by evaluating physical traits such as size, shape, color, clarity, and cut. The accuracy of your assessments will directly influence the quality, valuation, and authenticity of our diamond inventory.
Key Responsibilities
- Systematically sort rough and polished diamonds considering size, shape, color, clarity, and cut attributes.
- Use professional gemological instruments including loupes, tweezers, sieves, gauges, and color masters for stone evaluation.
- Classify diamonds consistent with accepted grading standards like the 4Cs and sieve measurements, as well as the D–Z color scale.
- Detect flaws, inclusions, and irregularities through magnified inspection.
- Organize diamonds into uniform, sale-ready lots, ensuring no mix-ups between parcels, grades, or clients.
- Keep precise records of sorting decisions and inventory flow.
- Collaborate effectively with grading, procurement, and sales departments.
- Adhere strictly to security protocols and maintain confidentiality required for handling valuable stones.
Qualifications & Skills
- Diploma or certification in Gemmology, Diamond Grading, or a related field such as GIA, IGI, or HRD certifications is preferred.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in diamond sorting, grading, or trade.
- Strong knowledge of diamond grading systems, especially the 4Cs.
- Excellent visual acuity and color differentiation skills, corrected or natural.
- Excellent manual dexterity with steady hands for handling small stones under magnification.
- High attention to detail with consistent precision in work output.
- Ability to maintain concentration for extended periods working under magnification.
- Uphold integrity, confidentiality, and reliability given the sensitivity of the role.
- Basic computer skills to maintain and update inventory records.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience with both rough and polished diamonds.
- Familiarity with sieve sizing, millimeter gauges, and color master tools.
- Understanding of fancy diamond shapes and colors.
- Prior work experience in manufacturing or trading houses.
- Willingness to participate in internal grading calibration sessions.
