Desktop Publishing (DTP) Operator

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and meticulous DTP Operator to join our book publishing team based in Kolkata, specializing in educational and academic publications. The role involves multilingual typing, typesetting, page layout, designing, image editing, equation and diagram preparation, corrections, and generating print-ready files with accuracy and creativity.

Key Responsibilities

• Typeset and format entire books adhering to publishing standards, managing layouts for various academic books such as textbooks, guidebooks, question banks, and test papers.
• Implement consistent formatting for page dimensions, margins, columns, headings, paragraph spacing, and other textual elements to maintain uniformity across publications.
• Handle multilingual typing proficiently in any two of English, Hindi, and Bengali, ensuring formatting consistency with Unicode and commonly used fonts.
• Understand academic content structures across diverse school subjects including Mathematics, Science, English, Social Sciences, and competitive examination materials for appropriate formatting.
• Work with mathematical and scientific content by setting equations, symbols, fractions, formulas, and preparing related diagrams with proper alignment.
• Create and position charts, tables, flowcharts, maps, and illustrations clearly and neatly for print.
• Design visually appealing book pages and assist in creating cover designs, chapter openings, promotional materials balancing text and graphic elements.
• Edit images by cropping, resizing, enhancing quality, adjusting brightness/contrast, removing backgrounds, and preparing images for high-resolution printing.
• Incorporate corrections from proofreaders, authors, and editors without disrupting layout, managing file versions efficiently.
• Generate final print-ready PDF files ensuring all technical print specifications are met, coordinating with production teams.
• Maintain organized project files, backups, and follow confidentiality protocols for all publishing assets.

Software Requirements

• Proficient in Adobe PageMaker, Adobe InDesign, CorelDRAW, and Adobe Photoshop.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PDF tools, equation-setting utilities, Unicode font management, and basic pre-press processes is a plus.

Language Proficiency

Typing competence in any two languages among English, Hindi, and Bengali is mandatory. Candidates proficient in all three will be prioritized.

Educational Background and Experience

Graduation preferred; however, candidates with substantial DTP experience and skills are encouraged to apply. Certifications in DTP, Graphic Designing or Computer Applications are advantages. Prior experience in book publishing, educational publishing, printing houses, DTP centers, newspapers, or production of educational content is beneficial.
