Design Director

Role Overview

The Design Director leads the design initiatives within the firm, ensuring high-quality and innovative design standards throughout all departments. This role involves promoting client-centered design approaches, supervising design teams, and contributing to marketing and business growth efforts.

Key Responsibilities

• Champion and maintain superior quality, innovation, and design excellence aligned with client objectives and vision.
• Advocate for the company’s mission emphasizing client-focused design processes and execution.
• Manage and mentor a team of designers to uphold consistent design standards and development.
• Lead design presentations and oversee project design progress, offering direction and support for uniformity across the office.
• Possess deep knowledge of architectural practices, including materials, construction techniques, engineering integration, building codes, and cost considerations.
• Act as a thought leader in the design community through participation in professional bodies, community outreach, and staff mentorship.
• Collaborate with firm-wide design and thought leaders to nurture the company’s design culture and propel innovative practice advancements.
• Supervise the adoption and enhancement of technological tools firm-wide to improve design workflows and results.
• Contribute to the creation and enforcement of organizational design guidelines and standards.

Required Qualifications

• At least 15 years of professional experience in architecture or related design fields.
• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture is mandatory.
• Registered Architect status with NCARB certification is required.
• LEED AP credential is preferred but not mandatory.
• Experience in corporate, educational, or healthcare project types is advantageous.
• Demonstrated strong dedication to delivering excellent client service.
• Ability to manage multiple projects competently under pressure with adaptability for tight deadlines.
• Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Familiarity with contemporary design technologies including REVIT, Rhino, SketchUp, and Generative AI tools.
• Capacity to engage effectively with senior leadership, clients, and vendors.
• Highly motivated with a focus on quality outcomes.
