About the Role

The Department Lead at US Foods' CHEF’STORE® plays a crucial role in shaping a welcoming environment focused on outstanding customer service while supporting the brand's promise of "Great Food, Made Easy." This position requires leading and overseeing functions across several departments including Dry, Disposables, Culinary Equipment Supplies, and fresh products as designated by Store Management. The Department Lead also performs duties as the Manager on Duty during the absence of senior management, including store opening and closing.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage inventory levels effectively considering store capacity, promotions, customer demand, and seasonal trends to optimize sales.
  • Drive departmental sales through excellent customer service, ensuring freshness and sufficient stock, while conducting daily date checks and training staff accordingly.
  • Maintain attractive merchandise presentation and pricing in assigned departments, utilizing computer systems as necessary.
  • Perform stocking, product displays, cashiering, and cleaning tasks as needed.
  • Fulfill Manager on Duty responsibilities in the absence of Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager, including opening and closing store operations.
  • Exemplify and instill US Foods' cultural beliefs: Deliver Excellence, Stop Waste, WIN Together, Speak Up, and You Matter.
  • Ensure store safety and maintenance by adhering to safety regulations, addressing and reporting hazards promptly.
  • Carry out other responsibilities assigned by Store Management.

Supervision

While not responsible for direct supervision, the Department Lead may monitor team performance and provide real-time coaching to help associates achieve targets.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three years in retail, restaurant, or customer service roles; prior supervisory or lead experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including holidays and weekends.
  • Proficient with computers, including word processing, email, and internet applications.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, see, hear, and communicate as required.
  • Perform computer keyboarding duties.
  • Move and walk on level surfaces periodically throughout the day.
  • Lifting and reaching activities including handling items up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent physical activities such as standing, walking, pushing/pulling carts, climbing steps, bending, twisting, grasping, and manual dexterity tasks.

Work Environment

Work is generally conducted on level floors but may include elevated surfaces or ladder use. Environmental conditions vary, including exposure to outside weather (temperature ranges between -10 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit) and moderate noise levels.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting hourly wage is $18.32, with a range between $16 and $25 depending on experience and location. Overtime pay is applicable. Benefits commence from day one, including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, disability coverage, employee stock purchase plans, and life insurance.
