Role Overview

We seek an experienced Decorator to become part of our repairs team. This permanent role involves performing both internal and external decorating tasks at occupied and vacant properties. Duties include surface preparation, painting, wallpapering, staining, finishing, as well as damp and mould remediation such as stain blocking and mould washes. You will also conduct minor plaster repairs and related trade tasks. The role requires working independently and collaboratively, ensuring repair quality, safety, and timely completion while keeping residents informed.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform decorating work inside and outside residential homes, both occupied and empty.
• Prepare work surfaces through filling, sanding, making good, and minor plaster repairs.
• Apply paint, stains, varnishes, wallpaper, and finishing touches.
• Conduct mould and damp remedial treatments including mould washes and stain block applications.
• Comply with health and safety standards and all relevant regulations.
• Order and manage materials and van stock with responsibility.
• Use PDA and repair management systems to update job orders and track material usage.
• Identify and report any unsafe installations or compliance issues.
• Deliver repairs right first time, diagnosing issues independently and managing workload effectively.
• Communicate clearly with residents regarding work status and access requirements.
• Maintain clean and safe work environments in residents’ homes.
• Drive company vehicles safely and maintain them roadworthy and clean.
• Support out-of-hours or emergency repairs when required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Proven experience with internal and external decorating in residential settings, especially social housing or maintenance environments.
• Ability to deliver high-quality repairs that are completed correctly the first time.
• Skilled in diagnosing and resolving recurring repair issues.
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Painting and Decorating, equivalent City and Guilds qualifications, or equivalent apprenticeship experience.
• Full, valid UK driving license required.

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong decorating and finish skills with close attention to detail.
• Understanding of responsive repairs processes, work allocation, and service standards.
• Clear knowledge of health and safety procedures and safe working systems.
• Familiarity with customer service principles and resident-focused repair delivery.
• Awareness of cost-effectiveness and efficient material usage.
• Experience using repairs management software, scheduling tools, and mobile technology including PDAs.
• Effective communication, organizational skills, and ability to manage workload decisively.

• Annual salary of £39,801.

Work Schedule and Transport

• Standard working hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00, totaling 40 hours per week.
• Use of company van and fuel card for business travel within the service area.
