Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced DB2 Database Administrator to oversee the administration, upkeep, monitoring, and optimization of enterprise DB2 databases hosted on Linux environments. This role supports business-critical systems through health monitoring, performance and security management, upgrades, backup and recovery operations, user access controls, incident troubleshooting, and automation efforts.

Responsibilities

• Manage and administer DB2 UDB databases running on Linux according to best practices.
• Continuously monitor database health, availability, and performance metrics.
• Carry out DB2, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and application upgrades as needed.
• Provide advanced level (L3/L4) troubleshooting for complex database incidents and issues.
• Handle backup and recovery processes while ensuring data security and managing user access.
• Optimize database and SQL query performance through tuning techniques.
• Address and resolve storage-related and I/O performance challenges.
• Support both production and development DB2 database environments.
• Utilize DB2 tools such as Reorg, Runstats, Rebind, Export, Import, Load, Backup, Restore, and Recovery utilities.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using Ansible roles/playbooks and shell scripting to drive operational improvements.

Requirements

• Minimum of 7 years hands-on experience operating as a DB2 UDB database administrator.
• Proven expertise administering DB2 databases specifically on Linux platforms.
• Strong skills in DB2 performance tuning and real-time monitoring.
• Practical experience with backup and recovery strategies in DB2.
• Ability to analyze SQL access plans and perform DB2 Explain for optimization.
• Advanced troubleshooting capabilities (levels L3 and L4) for complex database issues.
• Comprehensive use of DB2 utilities including Reorg, Runstats, Rebind, Load, Backup, and Restore.
• Proficiency in Ansible automation, including playbook development and customization.
• Familiarity with shell scripting is preferred to enhance automation tasks.
• Experience with Dynatrace monitoring tools for database performance is a beneficial asset.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in DB2 administration combined with Linux system knowledge and a deep understanding of troubleshooting and performance engineering. Ownership of mission-critical database environments and the ability to collaborate effectively with teams spanning application, infrastructure, vendor, and client service areas are essential.

Work Location
