Role Overview
We are seeking a Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) with substantial hands-on expertise in managing enterprise-grade databases, primarily Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. This role is focused on migrating legacy on-premises databases to Azure cloud services and enhancing database reliability through automation and robust platform operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and optimize Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases within enterprise settings, demonstrating at least five years of deeply technical experience, including a minimum of one to two years specifically in a DBRE capacity.
- Lead database migration projects transferring systems from traditional on-site environments to cloud-native Azure database solutions such as Azure SQL, Oracle on Azure, and PostgreSQL on Azure.
- Design and develop automated, self-service database provisioning and management tools by leveraging Golang, Infrastructure as Code, or related platform automation methods, all aligned with a DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering philosophy that emphasizes ownership and operational accountability.
- Collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams including application developers, platform engineers, and external vendor partners, demonstrating strong communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- Bring in prior software engineering or cloud platform enablement experience to influence and improve the reliability and scalability of database services.
- Operate pragmatically within complex regulatory and compliance frameworks common in enterprise environments, aiming for effective solutions that meet operational constraints.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- At least five years of professional experience working with Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise contexts.
- Demonstrated experience of one to two years working specifically in a Database Reliability Engineering role.
- Experience migrating databases from on-premises environments to Azure cloud database services.
- Strong knowledge of Azure architecture, cloud operational practices, and platform reliability engineering principles.
- Proficient in automation and software development using Golang and Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
- Solid understanding of DevOps/SRE cultural practices, including the "you build it, you run it" philosophy.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging multiple stakeholders effectively.
- Prior exposure to software engineering or cloud platform enablement teams highly desirable.
- Ability to navigate and deliver solutions within compliance and regulatory requirements in enterprise settings.
