Job description

About Lucidya

Lucidya is an AI-native Customer Experience Intelligence platform that enables organizations to analyze customer conversations, derive actionable insights, and enhance customer experience using advanced AI technology.

The platform's growth necessitates robust, dependable, and secure data infrastructure to support customers and foster continuous innovation in its product offerings.

Our databases operate across multiple cloud providers and hosting environments, handling critical business functions, large-scale data ingestion, and multi-tenant applications. We seek a skilled Database Administrator to improve our database operations, increase system resilience, and maintain reliability as we scale.

Role Importance

The complexity and scale of our database ecosystems are expanding, with PostgreSQL and MySQL environments running on AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and local hosting settings. Ensuring database availability, performance, and recovery capabilities is vital to our platform's reliability.

As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for monitoring and supporting the health and operational stability of our production databases, addressing challenges like multi-terabyte data stores, high availability setups, disaster recovery, upgrades, and migrations.

Collaboration with engineering, cloud, and reliability teams will also be key to optimizing database design decisions, avoiding production issues, and refining deployment processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer PostgreSQL and MySQL databases hosted on AWS, GCP, and on-premises environments.
  • Continuously monitor database performance, availability, and storage capacity.
  • Enhance query execution, indexing strategies, and resource management.
  • Oversee backup processes, point-in-time recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Implement replication, high-availability architectures, and failover mechanisms.
  • Coordinate database version upgrades, migrations, and schema modifications ensuring safety and minimal disruption.
  • Maintain rigorous database security protocols, access management, and auditing procedures.
  • Automate routine database tasks using scripting languages like Bash or Python.
  • Diagnose and resolve database incidents, performing thorough root cause analysis.
  • Partner with engineering, DevOps, SRE, and cloud teams to boost database scalability and dependability.

First 120 Days Goals

30 days: Gain comprehensive insight into the production databases across multiple environments and develop strong cross-team relationships. Identify critical risks and enhancement areas related to uptime, efficiency, and data recovery.

60 days: Independently manage administration tasks and troubleshooting, review and test backup configurations, assess monitoring gaps including replication lag and autovacuum issues, and contribute to performance improvements and documentation.

90 days: Complete recovery tests, document failure scenarios and runbooks, implement prioritized monitoring improvements, and drive initiatives aimed at database performance and incident prevention.

120 days: Establish safer change management including reviews and rollback plans, develop a PostgreSQL major upgrade roadmap addressing compatibility and migration risks, evaluate the high-availability approach for site databases, and gather metrics to support customer cost allocation efforts.

Who You Are

You bring significant experience as a Database Administrator, focusing not just on uptime but also on safeguarding data, troubleshooting complex performance issues, managing risky changes, and building reliable systems that perform well under pressure.

You are adept at handling large, vital databases and you excel at balancing operational stability with architectural improvements, automation, and scalability.

Required Qualifications

  • Over 5 years of practical experience administering PostgreSQL in production environments.
  • Proven experience with AWS Aurora, Amazon RDS, MySQL, and Linux-based self-managed databases.
  • Strong skills in database performance tuning, replication setups, high availability, and disaster recovery frameworks.
  • Experience managing large multi-terabyte databases, performing upgrades, and executing migrations.
  • Proficiency in automating database operations using Bash, Python, or similar tools.
  • Hands-on experience with backup strategies, recovery processes, and failover techniques.
  • Competence in troubleshooting database failures and executing effective change management with rollback plans.
  • Good understanding of PostgreSQL internals, multi-tenant database issues, query optimization, indexing, locking, and resource usage.

Preferred Skills (Not Mandatory)

  • Familiarity with multi-tenant database designs, especially schema-per-tenant models involving thousands of schemas.
  • Experience handling databases with multi-terabyte sizes, high write throughput, and rigorous uptime needs.
  • Practical use of PostgreSQL tools such as Patroni, pgBackRest, or WAL-G.
  • Exposure supporting cloud migrations or shifting workloads to local in-Kingdom hosting.
  • Knowledge of database observability, capacity forecasting, and per-customer usage or cost tracking systems.
  • Background in SaaS, data platforms, fintech, banking, or telecom sectors.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code solutions and automated provisioning for databases.
  • Relevant certifications like EDB PostgreSQL or AWS credentials.

Hiring Procedure

  • Initial screening by Mawhub.
  • Technical screening (45 minutes) with DB Lead.
  • Technical deep-dive interview (60-90 minutes) featuring practical scenarios like replication lag diagnosis and zero-downtime upgrades with DB Lead and SRE Team Lead.
  • Interview with Hiring Manager – Mahmoud Moharam, Cloud Manager.
  • Cultural fit assessment with HR Director.
