Role Overview

This opportunity invites a passionate Data Scientist to engage in end-to-end data science project activities—from initial exploration and experimentation to deployment and ongoing monitoring. The successful candidate will partner with various stakeholders to address business challenges using machine learning, advanced analytics, and generative/agentic AI applied to data across the Wesfarmers group. A key responsibility includes aiding the creation and embedding of scalable AI-driven solutions within organisational decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret business issues as analytical challenges and deliver data-centric solutions.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis to extract actionable insights.
• Design and implement A/B tests alongside other statistical experiments.
• Develop clear visuals and comprehensive reports that cater to non-technical stakeholders.
• Build, test, and operationalize machine learning and AI models.
• Assess ML/AI outputs focusing on quality, cost efficiency, and safety compliance.
• Oversee and sustain live data science solutions ensuring consistent reliability and performance.
• Utilize AI tools such as coding agents, skills, and plugins to expedite research and improve project outcomes.
• Play an active role in creating and promoting data science best practices, reusable methodologies, and delivery standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Multiple years of experience within data science, analytics, or AI-related roles.
• Strong background in statistical analysis and hypothesis testing.
• Competence with machine learning algorithms and AI-driven applications.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL tailored for data querying and model development.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake or comparable cloud-based data platforms.
• Knowledge of cloud ML/AI ecosystems, including Google Agent Platform (formerly Vertex AI).
• Experience leveraging AI coding utilities, generative AI, agentic AI, and evaluating large language models.
• Familiarity with visualization tools like Power BI and using Python, Codex, and SQL in Snowflake environments.
• Exposure to unsupervised learning techniques, graph algorithms, and causal inference methodologies.
• Adherence to best practices in ML/AI implementation and responsible AI deployment.
• Capability to effectively translate complex technical ideas for audiences lacking technical backgrounds.
• Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.
