Data Scientist - Logistics

About the Role

Join Snoonu in Doha as a Data Scientist specializing in logistics to lead the innovation and application of advanced forecasting and optimization solutions. You will be responsible for improving logistics operations through cutting-edge machine learning and optimization approaches, empowering efficient route planning, estimated time of arrivals, preparation timelines, and demand predictions.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the development, research, and operational deployment of sophisticated time series forecasting models tailored to logistics challenges including ETA and demand forecasting.
• Create and execute optimization algorithms to enhance logistics network efficiency and resource management.
• Design rigorous experimental setups to validate and benchmark models against real-world data ensuring reliability and precision.
• Manage the lifecycle of ML models in production by fine-tuning, monitoring, and maintaining retraining workflows.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and product teams to pinpoint operational issues and propose innovative, data-driven solutions.
• Lead A/B testing and experimentation to assess model effectiveness and continuously refine logistics KPIs.
• Communicate complex analytics and insights effectively to senior leadership and stakeholders to guide strategic decisions.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior data scientists and uphold best practices in modeling, experimentation, and coding standards.
• Stay abreast of emerging advances in AI, machine learning, and operations research techniques to incorporate leading-edge methods into logistics projects.

Qualifications and Experience

• MSc degree in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or related discipline; a PhD is advantageous.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in data science or machine learning with a specialization in time series forecasting and optimization.
• Proven expertise in time series forecasting methods such as ARIMA, Prophet, LightGBM, TFT, DeepAR, N-BEATS, and both regression and classification models.
• Hands-on experience with optimization frameworks including linear and mixed-integer programming, heuristic techniques, and tools like OR-Tools or PuLP.
• Strong proficiency in Python and its scientific libraries (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, Optuna, LightGBM, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Experience building, deploying, and operationalizing machine learning models with monitoring and retraining capabilities.
• Skilled in conducting A/B tests and other experimental methodologies.
• Competent in managing large datasets and working with SQL-based databases such as BigQuery and Redash.
• Familiar with cloud computing platforms including AWS (ECS, S3, Lambda, Step Functions), Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, VertexAI), or Databricks for ML development and deployment.
• Background in delivery and logistics industry preferred, with understanding of the sector's operational challenges and optimization opportunities.
