Job description
Overview
This opportunity represents a mid-level Data Platform Engineer role based in the United Arab Emirates, offered through a partnering organization responsible for recruitment and further process coordination. The position centers on evolving an existing data and machine learning platform into a scalable, self-service system that equips engineering teams to operate autonomously.
Key Responsibilities
- Enhance and adapt CI/CD pipelines by evaluating existing deployment workflows, identifying new requirements, and ensuring dependable, consistent software delivery.
- Extend and maintain infrastructure-as-code modules aligning with established repository standards to secure uniformity, reliability, and ease of upkeep across services.
- Implement data governance protocols including naming standards, access controls, retention procedures, and other compliance measures for data services and infrastructure.
- Build and sustain reusable platform tools and template repositories incorporating CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and governance norms so engineering teams can initiate new pipelines with minimal manual input.
- Create standardized modules and tools that simplify pipeline creation and reduce repetitive engineering tasks, making frequent platform operations accessible through consistent workflows.
- Produce practical technical documentation, runbooks, and troubleshooting materials to enable engineers to independently manage systems without depending on specific individuals.
- Design and manage workflows for data access permissions, streamlining authorization processes and minimizing delays for teams requiring access.
- Progressively assume full responsibility for platform tooling, including directing technical priorities, upkeep, and roadmap development for template repositories and infrastructure modules.
- Collaborate closely across disciplines such as data engineering, backend development, and infrastructure to bolster platform stability and enhance tool usefulness across teams.
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools carefully by evaluating generated code, identifying possible issues, and clearly articulating the technical rationale behind delivered solutions.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven ability to independently manage a deployment path end-to-end, including pipeline construction, failure troubleshooting, production issue resolution, and documentation through runbooks.
- At least two years of professional involvement in software, data, platform, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering roles.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Competent working knowledge of Python and SQL, regularly applied in professional engineering activities.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices, capable of understanding and enhancing existing implementations.
- Strong skills in codebase analysis and troubleshooting, able to navigate unfamiliar code, pinpoint vulnerabilities, and make informed technical decisions.
- Familiarity with container technologies like Docker and foundational knowledge of cloud computing concepts, particularly AWS (specific services like SageMaker not mandatory).
- Versatility to operate across data engineering, backend development, and infrastructure domains rather than focusing entirely on one area.
- Comfort with AI coding assistive tools such as Copilot, Claude, or Cursor; able to critically review and validate AI-generated code, recognizing both its correctness and potential hazards.
- A proactive and accountable attitude toward system modifications, candid about failures, underlying causes, and learnings.
- Respect for and adherence to existing architectural frameworks and engineering standards before proposing changes.
- Effective communication skills to articulate technical choices clearly and justify implementation strategies, welcoming evaluations on reasoning as well as deliverables.
- An eagerness to learn, develop new competencies, and experiment with unfamiliar technologies; prior mastery of every technology or domain is not required.
Employee Benefits
- Competitive annual salary estimated between €33,000 and €43,000, established through an objective remuneration assessment.
- Opportunity to work remotely from any global location, with sponsored visits to headquarters for team meetings.
- Provision of meal vouchers to employees working remotely or on-site.
- Support programs dedicated to physical and mental health and fitness.
- An annual budget allocated for learning and professional development to foster technical growth.
- Access to AI-driven engineering tools for daily tasks and innovation.
- A one-time allowance to set up a functional and comfortable home workspace.
- Flexible working approach without strict clock-in or clock-out requirements, emphasizing autonomy and results.
- Additional day of leave to celebrate one’s birthday.
- A structured career growth program with clear milestones, regular feedback, and development pathways.
- Work within an international team in a dynamic environment that values quality engineering, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Meaningful responsibility with opportunities to build on and take ownership of central platform infrastructure and its developmental roadmap.
