Role Overview

As a Data Platform Engineer, you will be instrumental in architecting and maintaining data solutions that support over 600,000 customers and nearly 2,000 employees daily. Working within the Data Platform team, which manages an end-to-end technology stack including Trino, Metabase, Airflow, OpenMetadata, and Snowflake, your efforts will ensure data accessibility, accuracy, and operational efficiency across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive data solutions from initial requirements through production deployment including data ingestion, querying, and automation for critical business applications.
  • Transform repetitive manual data requests into reusable, well-documented components that empower teams to self-serve.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for data consumers by managing intake processes, triaging needs, and prioritizing quick fixes, formal solutions, or platform enhancements.
  • Ensure data quality and timeliness by setting contracts, testing protocols, service level agreements, and conducting root cause analysis on pipeline issues.
  • Maintain and operate an open-source based data technology stack, ensuring stability and reliability of tools like Trino, Metabase, Airflow, and OpenMetadata in production environments.

What to Expect

  • A pivotal position collaborating across departments to influence company-wide data-driven decisions.
  • Work with a cutting-edge cloud-native technology stack that includes Python, SQL, Snowflake, Airflow, Trino, Metabase, OpenMetadata, Kubernetes, and AWS.
  • High level of autonomy within a team of senior engineers who value ownership and initiative from the start.
  • Opportunity to tackle scaling challenges inherent to servicing a leading fintech’s thousands of daily users.

Supervisor

You will be reporting to the Data Platform team lead, Charles, who possesses extensive expertise in the stack and promotes autonomy while providing necessary guidance and support.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum of three years’ professional experience in Data or Software Engineering with a track record of deploying and managing data pipelines and services in live environments.
  • Proficient in Python with a solid understanding of data infrastructure including data warehouses, query engines, and orchestration tools, and the ability to select appropriate technologies based on needs.
  • Experienced in managing open-source data tools such as Airflow and Snowflake, with practical skills in debugging infrastructure; familiarity with Kubernetes, AWS, Git workflows, and CI/CD pipelines is highly valued.
  • Strong ownership mentality: capable of managing projects from concept through delivery, including stakeholder engagement and defining clear deliverables.
  • Familiar with using AI-powered coding tools and automation in software engineering, with discernment about their appropriate applications.
  • Eager to learn rapidly and embrace a varied technology stack, viewing unfamiliar tools as learning opportunities rather than obstacles.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to effectively bridge business objectives and technical implementations.
  • Fluency in English is required.
