Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Lead to take comprehensive responsibility for an organisation-wide data governance framework. This senior-level position involves defining and embedding governance strategies, operational frameworks, standards, and controls that underpin analytics efforts, regulatory compliance, business transformation initiatives, and emerging AI applications. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with senior stakeholders, architecture and engineering teams, data protection experts, and cross-functional business units to integrate governance seamlessly into everyday operational practices rather than isolate it as a separate function.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the company’s enterprise data governance strategy, including policies and operating models.
- Define and clarify data ownership and stewardship roles across various business domains.
- Lead the design and management of data quality frameworks, controls, measurement metrics, and remediation processes.
- Oversee governance of metadata, data definitions, business glossaries, and data lineage.
- Embed governance principles into architecture, engineering projects, and data migration initiatives.
- Support compliance efforts regarding data privacy, security, and regulatory mandates.
- Champion adoption, enhance accountability, and foster a culture of strong data governance throughout the organisation.
Candidate Profile
- Proven leadership experience in driving enterprise-wide data governance programmes.
- Solid knowledge of established data management frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK.
- Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms, with a preference for Azure and Databricks environments.
- Familiarity with Databricks Unity Catalog technology.
- Strong expertise in areas including data quality management, metadata administration, data lineage tracking, stewardship, and establishing clear ownership.
- Exceptional skills in managing relationships with senior stakeholders and influencing organisational change.
- Experience in insurance or other regulated industries is advantageous.

Compensation
Competitive salary up to £80,000 plus bonus schemes and benefits.
