Overview
The Data Governance & Catalog Consultant is tasked with implementing, maintaining, and enhancing enterprise-wide metadata management, including data cataloging, business glossaries, and metadata governance capabilities. This role directly supports the organization's data governance strategy by ensuring metadata assets are accurately handled, governed, documented, and available for stakeholders. The goal is to improve data discovery, lineage tracking, quality, compliance, and the ability to leverage data for business value.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain enterprise metadata management and data catalog systems.
- Create and manage business glossaries, data dictionaries, taxonomies, and centralized metadata repositories.
- Develop and enforce metadata governance standards, operational processes, and frameworks.
- Enable metadata capture, classification, enrichment, and cataloging activities across enterprise datasets.
- Implement and sustain comprehensive data lineage and traceability mechanisms.
- Work collaboratively with data owners, stewards, business units, and IT teams to uphold metadata quality and consistency.
- Configure and administer data catalog and metadata management platforms effectively.
- Assist data governance initiatives relating to metadata management, data ownership, stewardship, and compliance mandates.
- Monitor metrics related to metadata quality, completeness, lineage coverage, and governance effectiveness.
- Develop metadata-related standards, policies, procedures, and governance documentation thoroughly.
- Support regulatory compliance, audits, and data management requirements through robust metadata governance.
- Provide training, user support, and knowledge transfer related to metadata and cataloging systems.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects to elevate the maturity of data governance and metadata management capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, IT, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certification in Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) Metadata Management.
- Certification in the specific Metadata Governance or Metadata Management platform used.
- Additional certifications in Data Governance, DAMA, Enterprise Data Management, or related domains are preferred.
Experience Requirements
- More than 5 years of experience in Data Governance, Metadata Management, Data Catalog Administration, or Enterprise Data Management.
- Proven hands-on expertise managing metadata repositories, business glossaries, and data lineage solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to implement and support metadata governance frameworks on an enterprise-wide scale.
- Experience configuring and maintaining metadata management and data catalog tools and platforms.
