Role Overview

MCERT is hiring two experienced Data Brokers to lead negotiation and management of data supply agreements and onboarding initiatives within the Planning System Transformation and National Adaptation Framework programmes. As key data stewards, you will work at a senior level to cultivate and sustain productive partnerships, ensuring a consistent and high-quality data supply. These impactful fixed-term roles reside within the Data and Science Content team under the Strategy, Stewardship & Performance Business Group, driving data-informed policy and strategic decision-making aligned with long-term data investment plans.

Key Responsibilities and Skills

• Negotiate and maintain data supply agreements to support ministry programmes.
• Lead data onboarding activities ensuring quality and sustainability of data sources.
• Act as a liaison bridging technical staff and non-technical leaders to facilitate understanding and decision-making.
• Build and nurture strong stakeholder and customer relationships.
• Apply commercial acumen from data buying or selling experience to promote beneficial data exchange.
• Facilitate change and influence stakeholders across diverse groups.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• A bachelor's degree or higher in fields such as information science, social science, economics, policy, or equivalent professional experience.
• Commercial experience related to buying or selling data or research assets.
• Deep understanding of multiple data types including planning and consenting data, infrastructure data, environmental and geospatial data, land use, emergency management, and risk assessment data.
• Familiarity with data procurement, sharing agreements, intellectual property considerations, and data ethics including privacy regulations.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to tailor writing and speaking to diverse audiences.
• Commitment or willingness to develop knowledge of Te Ao Māori to contribute effectively to Māori community outcomes.
• Experience or knowledge of central and local government operations is advantageous.

Additional Information

• Salary band: $110,501 to $134,128 per annum, dependent on skills and experience.
• Role location: Wellington, New Zealand.
