Data Architect

Overview

This position involves architecting, designing, and implementing cloud-based big data analytic systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, secure, and reliable. The candidate will be responsible for building and sustaining an enterprise self-service cloud data platform, establishing reference architectures, technical blueprints, and accelerators to support data product teams. The role requires transforming business needs into efficient data solutions through data engineering and business intelligence, including data modeling, architecture definition, and ensuring data integrity, security, performance, and scalability aligned with project goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and align a technical blueprint for cloud data analytics consistent with the organization's technology strategy and ensure program adherence.
• Collaborate with fellow data architects to generate synergy, standardize tools and technologies, and enhance solutions.
• Design and engineer a scalable, high-performance self-service data platform enabling data product engineers, analysts, and business users to access and analyze data with ease.
• Create and maintain reference and solution architecture frameworks.
• Implement best practices for data governance, security, and compliance across the data platform.
• Identify and deploy suitable technologies for data ingestion, orchestration, storage, and transformation within the platform.
• Translate business specifications into solution artifacts supporting data solution construction.
• Choose cost-effective, secure technologies from the self-serve data platform's offerings for data solution development.
• Develop specifications for business intelligence architecture and other design documents demonstrating the proposed solutions' impact.
• Lead technical and business alignment sessions to ensure the solution architecture meets business and technology objectives throughout development.
• Design and maintain enterprise-level big data models and architectures to efficiently manage large datasets.
• Evaluate and enhance existing data architectures offering strategic recommendations.
• Implement metadata management solutions to catalogue organizational data assets.
• Monitor and optimize the performance of data platform services and solutions.
• Stay informed about emerging cloud data platform technologies and lead proof-of-concept initiatives.

Profile and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent and have at least six years of relevant work experience, including a minimum of three years as a Data Architect. Essential competencies include experience with big data, data warehousing, and analytics projects, both from a technology implementation and architectural standpoint. Demonstrated ability to build large-scale enterprise data architectures and big data models, proficiency in cloud BI architecture and data engineering, and expertise in data warehousing, business intelligence solutions, and data lakes are required.

Technical skills must include experience with production-grade cloud data solutions involving administration, monitoring, debugging, and performance tuning, as well as strong data modeling abilities based on established methodologies (Kimball, Inmon, data vault). Effective communication skills are necessary for client-facing presentations and workshop facilitation. Familiarity with cloud computing principles, data ingestion and processing pipelines, programming languages like Python and SQL, and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Cloud Formation) is also vital.

Preferred qualifications encompass knowledge of data mesh architecture, agile/lean methodologies, and experience in the airline industry, though the latter is not mandatory.
