Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis (AGLC) is a leading organization in Alberta's gaming, liquor, and cannabis sectors, dedicated to delivering exceptional service and trusted choices to Albertans.
Information Technologies Division
The IT department supports AGLC’s business by managing and securing computer systems critical to gaming, liquor, and corporate operations. It oversees network stability and performance across over 1,200 gaming sites, more than 2,000 computing devices, 150 physical servers, and 2,000 virtual servers distributed across multiple offices and venues including casinos and bingo halls. IT provides strategic leadership in technology, data management, and systems to align with AGLC’s objectives.
Position Summary
The Data Architect role is a pivotal, innovative position that goes beyond routine maintenance. The successful candidate will establish the core data infrastructure that supports applications, analytics, AI, automation, and strategic decision-making across the enterprise. Operating at the convergence of business strategy, architectural design, and modern technology, the role demands transforming complex data environments into scalable, elegant solutions that align with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Convert business visions into impactful data architecture solutions.
- Provide leadership and architectural guidance across multiple projects and initiatives.
- Effectively communicate sophisticated ideas to executives, business teams, and analysts.
- Integrate data architecture, governance, lineage, and quality into business cases and system architecture proactively.
- Develop solutions ensuring compliance with privacy, security, and regulatory demands without hindering delivery pace.
- Advocate for data standards and dictionaries that promote trustworthy, reusable, and accessible information.
- Define reference architectures, reusable design patterns, and plan architecture roadmaps.
- Identify modernization opportunities to reduce legacy technical debt.
- Keep abreast of emerging technology trends in cloud computing, analytics, data engineering, and artificial intelligence.
- Architect enterprise-wide data solutions supporting applications, platforms, and analytics for digital transformation.
- Design clear and consistent data domains that clarify complex data structures and interrelations.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 4 years of professional experience in developing and maintaining enterprise data management solutions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of data modeling principles and tools, including enforcing data quality standards.
- Expertise in Master Data Management (MDM) practices.
- In-depth experience with Data Governance concepts and practical applications.
- Strong understanding of data quality methodologies, tools, and principles.
- Experience using Power BI, Tableau, or other business intelligence and data visualization tools.
- Exceptional communication skills facilitating collaborative interaction with various business units.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with Informatica MDM, AI/ML platform architecture, data quality and governance certifications, TOGAF, DAMA CDMP certification, and knowledge of data observability.
