About Snowy Hydro

Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy company supplying reliable, on-demand energy to Australia for generations. The business operates a diverse portfolio including the iconic Snowy Hydro-electric Scheme, gas and diesel power stations, and contracted wind and solar sources within the National Electricity Market. It also serves over 1.5 million retail customers through Red Energy and Lumo Energy. The Snowy 2.0 project, now under construction, represents Australia's largest committed renewable energy initiative, aiming to deliver large-scale energy storage and on-demand power for many future generations.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Cyber Security Operations Manager to lead and enhance daily cyber security activities covering both IT and operational technology environments. Reporting to the Head of Cyber Security, you will manage a team of security specialists, incident response engineers, and analysts, ensuring operational readiness and continuous improvement in detection engineering and automation. This role importantly serves as a bridge between technical teams and senior leadership, especially during major incident management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily Security Operations Center (SOC) monitoring, management of detection platforms, and incident triage across critical IT and OT systems.
  • Serve as Incident Manager during significant cyber security events, directing containment efforts, briefing executives, and leading post-incident analyses.
  • Continuously improve detection rules, integrate threat intelligence, and develop automated SOAR playbooks to reduce detection and response times.
  • Stay informed on emerging threat vectors including AI-related vulnerabilities and critical infrastructure risks.
  • Collaborate with Risk and Governance teams on business continuity planning (BCP) and disaster recovery (DR) tabletop exercises, refining operational response protocols.
  • Manage performance of Managed Detection and Response (MDR) and Managed Security Service Providers (MSSP), ensuring quality and seamless operations.
  • Lead and mentor a growing team of 4–5 direct reports, fostering a culture of learning, operational excellence, and sustainable team performance.
  • Prepare and deliver operational metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs), and strategic reports for senior management and board-level stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven leadership experience managing a contemporary SOC or technical incident response team in large enterprise environments such as banking, critical infrastructure, utilities, transportation, FMCG, or top-tier consulting.
  • Strong technical expertise with hands-on experience in SIEM, EDR/XDR, SOAR platforms, threat intelligence, and network detection technologies.
  • A naturally inquisitive and proactive problem solver with the ability to investigate complex challenges and implement sustainable resolutions.
  • Calm, decisive leadership during high-pressure cyber incident responses and operational escalations.
  • Exceptional communication skills capable of translating complex technical issues into clear insights for executives and business stakeholders.
  • Relevant certifications like CISSP, CISM, GIAC or degrees in Cyber Security, Computer Science, or Information Technology are preferred but practical enterprise experience is highly valued.
  • Commitment to safety, ethical behavior, collaboration, and accountability within the team and organisation.
