Role Overview
Reporting directly to the Chief Information Security Officer within the Security & Governance team, the Cyber Security Officer spearheads governance, risk management, and compliance efforts supporting Brennan's Information Security Management System and Cyber Security Framework.
The role encompasses management across five domains of the Brennan Cyber Security Framework: Direct, Prepare, Protect, Detect & Respond, and Assure & Improve. While primarily based in Canberra, Australia, candidates may be located at any Brennan office nationwide.
Key Responsibilities and Expertise
The position demands strong governance and risk oversight, including:
- Managing day-to-day governance, risk, and compliance related to information security.
- Administering, maintaining, and enhancing an Information Security Management System (ISMS).
- Aligning security practices with frameworks such as ISO/IEC 27001 and performing evidence-based compliance.
- Applying knowledge of cybersecurity standards, including the NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0, Australian Government ISM, PSPF, ASD Essential Eight, and, where applicable, APRA CPS 234 and CPS 230.
- Identifying, evaluating, and mitigating information security risks, maintaining risk registers, and steering formal risk acceptance through governance channels.
- Planning and overseeing internal audits, control testing, and assurance reviews, ensuring timely resolution of audit findings.
- Developing and updating comprehensive security policies, standards, and procedures.
- Engaging with stakeholders, including those in Federal Government sectors.
