Cyber Security Architect

Role Overview

Based in Canberra or Melbourne at our customer's site, the Cyber Security Architect will report to the Practice Lead of Applied Intelligence. This role involves creating and implementing secure cyber architectures to protect information systems effectively. You will collaborate closely with architecture teams, cyber security professionals, and client cyber resources to strengthen security protocols and proactive threat mitigation.

The primary focus lies in providing cyber architecture and assurance support to a major sustainment project, with occasional involvement in other initiatives. Additionally, you will mentor junior team members, fostering best practices and innovation in security solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect and analyse requirements to develop solution and detailed designs for cybersecurity technologies implemented for Citadel Edge and clients, especially within defence contexts.
• Design, consult on, and provide quality assurance for intricate security, cloud, end-user, and related domain solutions spanning multiple jurisdictions and standards such as Australian ISM and PSPF.
• Implement and advise on AWS cybersecurity controls (CloudTrail, GuardDuty, Inspector, Shield), Azure and Microsoft 365 security technologies (Defender for Cloud, Sentinel), data loss prevention tools (Microsoft 365 DLP, CASB), web application firewalls, network segmentation and access control, and endpoint protection solutions like Crowdstrike and Ivanti.
• Support other architects with cybersecurity aspects of their projects.
• Offer cybersecurity guidance and assistance to project and business as usual (BAU) teams, including information classification, threat and vulnerability assessments, and producing cyber security documentation.
• Participate in procurement reviews by evaluating vendor cybersecurity controls, ensuring solution designs meet objectives, and leading thought leadership with key stakeholders.
• Engage with the Architecture Working Group and Architecture Review Board to ensure quality across architectural artefacts.
• Stay informed about industry trends and evaluate new technologies and products.
• Lead solution architecture efforts on projects and initiatives guaranteeing alignment with architectural principles and advancing target state architectures.
• Analyse current and future business capabilities and IT environments to identify gaps and recommend improvements.
• Develop and facilitate governance, assurance, and standards frameworks to regulate architectural decision-making and ensure enterprise architecture compliance.
• Collaborate with IT functions to align technology solutions with enterprise architecture roadmaps and plan architecture activities portfolio-wide.
• Adopt a pragmatic, interconnected, and forward-thinking solution architecture approach to support growth, continuous improvement, and thought leadership.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

• Must possess NV2 Security Clearance or hold NV1 clearance with eligibility to upgrade to NV2.
• Have 4 to 6+ years of professional experience in information security, particularly in security architecture and design.
• Prior exposure to Australian Defence or National Security environments.
• Knowledge and experience with Microsoft 365, AWS Security, and fundamentals of cloud security.
• Hold certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA, along with vendor certifications like AWS Certified Security Specialty and Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate.
• Experience with SIEM, Endpoint Detection systems, Azure Security features, email security platforms, web proxy/security technologies, and network security solutions.
• Proficiency in vulnerability assessments, firewall management, content filtering, and file integrity monitoring tools.
• Desirable but not mandatory is experience in software development or ICT infrastructure deployments, especially in complex security operations settings.
