This role is with a leading Global Freight Forwarder renowned for its strong brand presence and superior service worldwide. As a top player in the Australasian logistics market, the company values innovation alongside collaboration, continuous learning, and professional development. Due to ongoing expansion, they seek to enhance their Brisbane Head Office team with a new Customs Classifier.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the Customs Classifier will support Brokers and Operations teams by classifying various commodities under customs tariffs, liaising with shipping and regulatory bodies, and ensuring efficient consignment clearance. This role emphasizes delivering exceptional customer service, resolving client and departmental queries, and continuously improving customs entry processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and classify diverse commodities according to customs tariff regulations
- Coordinate with shipping lines, airlines, freight forwarders, and government agencies as required
- Maintain excellent customer service standards at all times
- Address and resolve queries from clients and internal teams effectively
- Ensure timely and efficient clearing of consignments
- Provide ongoing support for daily customs entry processes, working with the Operational Customs Manager for continuous enhancement
- Guarantee the department is well-equipped with the resources needed to perform tasks efficiently and with quality
- Engage actively in recruiting, mentoring, coaching, and evaluating team members to foster development
Candidate Requirements
- At least 2 years experience in Customs Compiling and Classifying or completion/ongoing study of a recognized Customs qualification
- Proficient user of CargoWise One software
- Strong knowledge of the Customs Tariff and associated regulatory frameworks
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously with minimal oversight
- Highly organised with careful attention to detail
- Effective time management and task prioritisation abilities
- Proven track record of collaborating successfully within team environments
