Customer Delivery Driver

About the Role

Join Sainsbury's as a Customer Delivery Driver and play an essential role connecting our long-standing community stores with customers by delivering online grocery orders directly to their homes. You'll bring enthusiasm, warmth, and dedication to every delivery, ensuring customers receive their groceries exactly as expected.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Represent Sainsbury's positively at every customer doorstep, providing a friendly and considerate delivery experience.
• Operate a 3.5 tonne refrigerated van to transport groceries, ensuring punctual and pristine delivery.
• Perform pre-trip inspections ensuring the vehicle is clean, roadworthy, and organized.
• Adhere to designated routes and drive safely under diverse weather, traffic, and road conditions.
• Handle shopping containers up to 15kg, delivering to various property types including those with steps, lifts, or extended distances from the vehicle.
• Maintain excellent communication with customers, inform them promptly about any delivery delays, order changes, or queries.
• Support in-store operations as needed when not out on delivery runs.

Candidate Requirements

• Must be over 18 years of age and hold a full UK/EU driving license for at least 12 months with no more than 6 points.
• Must have legal eligibility to work in the UK.
• Complete an online driving risk assessment during the selection process and successfully pass an in-person driving assessment upon joining.
• Be willing to work with in-cab AI cameras designed to monitor driving behavior to ensure safety and compliance.
• Comfortable driving a larger vehicle in varied environments including busy urban areas, residential streets, and narrow rural lanes.
• Physically capable of operating in a fast-paced, physically demanding role involving lifting and moving items up to 15kg frequently.
• Demonstrate problem-solving skills, safe decision-making on the road, and ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the store team.
• Open to learning new technologies such as route and delivery management systems.
• Flexible and enthusiastic about contributing to different facets of the store's operations as required.
