Position Overview
The State of Vermont's Buildings and General Services (BGS) department is hiring a Custodian IV to work at the Waterbury State Office Complex. This role involves overseeing cleaning activities and training new custodial staff, alongside managing supply orders under supervision. The position will require working independently or collaboratively on varied cleaning tasks.
Work Schedule and Requirements
This is a full-time, Monday to Friday position with working hours from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM. Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license and successfully pass a background check. Physical capabilities to handle outdoor conditions, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds are necessary. Evening and overtime work can be expected.
Department and Eligibility
BGS is a comprehensive agency supporting state departments, employing over 340 staff members to maintain facilities statewide. The role is open to current State employees as well as outside applicants. Application must be completed online; resumes sent via email will not be accepted.
Job Duties and Environment
- Lead custodial operations at the Waterbury office complex
- Train new cleaning staff and coordinate team efforts when necessary
- Order necessary supplies with guidance from supervisory personnel
- Perform general and specialized cleaning tasks, including managing bloodborne pathogen situations and other infectious materials
- Maintain safety and hygiene in state-owned or leased buildings
Minimum Qualifications
- At least three years of custodial experience including floor maintenance like stripping, waxing, and carpet extraction, with at least one year in a supervisory or lead role
- Alternatively, three years as a BGS Custodian II
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for work-related travel
- Successful completion of applicable background checks
