Role Overview

As a Custodian, you will ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of our store both inside and out. Your efforts will guarantee a safe, attractive, and comfortable environment for customers and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

• Offer friendly, timely customer interactions including greeting customers and providing helpful assistance.
• Maintain overall cleanliness and hygiene by performing tasks such as sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, vacuuming, power washing, scrubbing, dusting, carpet shampooing, and sanitizing surfaces.
• Replace light bulbs and refill or install paper towels, soap dispensers, and similar supplies.
• Monitor plumbing, refrigeration units, and fixtures; promptly report any maintenance concerns to supervisors.
• Manage waste by emptying trash and compressing cardboard continuously during your shift.
• Unclog drains when necessary and conduct routine upkeep of cleaning equipment.
• Clean air filters and cooling systems within the store environment.
• Keep track of cleaning supplies—order products and verify invoices for accuracy when applicable.
• Perform quarterly inventory checks to assess cleaning product usage and costs.
• Support store operations by conducting price verifications, retrieving carts from parking areas, and assisting customers with bagging.
• Participate in additional store duties and special projects as assigned.
• Follow all company policies and store-specific guidelines diligently.
• Maintain punctuality and report to work as scheduled.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Capability to address practical issues and comprehend instructions even if situations vary.
• Basic arithmetic skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers.
• Ability to understand, follow, and communicate directions effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Strong teamwork skills to collaborate effectively in maintaining store standards.

Reporting

Accountable to: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers (Store Operations, Perishables, Health Wellness Home), and Service Managers.

Education and Experience

No formal educational qualifications or prior experience are mandatory, as comprehensive training will be provided.

Physical Requirements

• Regular standing and walking during shifts in retail, food service, or delivery settings.
• For roles involving food prep: ability to safely use sharp instruments and manage heat exposure.
• Operate delivery vehicles in alignment with Department of Transportation standards where applicable.
• Repeated physical motions including standing, walking, reaching, and bending related to order fulfillment and cleaning.

Work Environment

Work is performed across the store and exterior areas with exposure to moderate noise, varied temperatures, moisture, dirt, and chemical cleaning agents. Safety training is included to maintain a secure work setting.
