Position Overview
School District 60 has an opening for a Custodian at Upper Pine Elementary, located in Rose Prairie, British Columbia. This role involves performing a variety of custodial and minor building maintenance tasks for School District facilities. The position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor, works alongside site Administrative Officers, and is overseen by the Head Custodian. Employment runs from September 8, 2026, through June 30, 2027, or until the incumbent returns, whichever is sooner. Candidates should apply online by noon on August 20, 2026.
Working Hours and Compensation
The role requires four hours daily across five days each week, totaling an eleven-month work year. The wage offered starts at $25.98 per hour.
Job Responsibilities
- Thoroughly clean and disinfect interior building areas, including fixtures, windows, garbage removal, sweeping, vacuuming, and wet mopping floors.
- Carry out exterior cleaning duties on buildings and entrance landings.
- Secure all doors and windows within the assigned area.
- Perform minor repairs on doors, windows, lighting, school furniture, and related fixtures.
- Organize daily work tasks under guidance of site Administrative Officer(s) and Supervisor, ensuring accommodation for evening group activities.
- Assist with seasonal maintenance such as floor stripping, scrubbing, waxing, and washing walls, desks, and furniture.
- Maintain tools and equipment to ensure they remain in good condition.
- Uphold safety standards by maintaining a secure work environment and handling equipment and vehicles properly.
- Handle hazardous materials safely in compliance with WHMIS guidelines and use equipment and hand tools correctly.
- Temporarily fulfill the Head Custodian duties when required.
- Report to Supervisors or Administrative Officers on occurrences of vandalism affecting equipment or property.
- Complete other related tasks as assigned by supervisors and the Head Custodian.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent education is mandatory and proof is required prior to employment start.
- Preferably at least one year of experience in commercial or school cleaning.
- Competence in operating large self-propelled auto scrubbers and window cleaning equipment.
- Holding a valid Class 5 driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle could be required.
- Ability to comprehend written instructions and safety bulletins effectively.
- Strong organizational skills with the capability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
- Good interpersonal skills enabling effective teamwork and public interaction.
- Completion of WHMIS certification and additional safety training provided by the district during the probationary period is necessary.
- Successful clearance of a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check prior to employment.
