Role Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about Te Ao Māori and te reo Māori to make a significant contribution. This role involves supporting Meridian’s growth as an organization that honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi by enhancing cultural understanding, increasing confidence in te reo Māori, and embedding tikanga in meaningful, practical ways. Working collaboratively with the Kaihautū Māori and the People Team, you will help activate the company’s Te Ao Māori strategy — Ki Te Hoe o Te Waka o Te Hiringa Kōmata — through organizing learning initiatives, building relationships, managing events, and fostering inclusive daily interactions that shape collaborative work and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and coordinate cultural ceremonies such as mihi whakatau and poroporoaki.
• Assist with the organization of significant events like Matariki and Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.
• Facilitate learning experiences aimed at nurturing cultural participation and understanding among staff.
• Partner with leaders and teams across the business to embed tikanga and Te Tiriti principles in workplace practices.
• Contribute actively to the company’s cultural development initiatives, growing into broader culture and capability roles over time.

Candidate Profile

• Strong foundation in Te Ao Māori and confident fluency in te reo Māori, with enthusiasm to help others develop their skills.
• Clear understanding of the significance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its practical application in the workplace.
• Self-driven with energetic initiative and solid organizational skills to transform ideas into effective actions.
• Ability to build positive, respectful relationships and communicate clearly across various business levels.
• Experience in event planning or facilitating learning through any relevant contexts such as work, study, marae, community, iwi, or sport.
• Comfortable or aspirational to speak publicly, with an inquisitive interest in culture, people, and organizational growth.
• Highly organized with the capability to handle multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and fulfilling commitments.
• A growth mindset with readiness to learn and develop within the HR culture and capability space, supported by coaching.
