Job description
Role Overview
This position is responsible for ensuring the safe, timely, and fully documented collection, transport, and delivery of specimens to uphold specimen integrity and laboratory turnaround times.
Strategic Contribution
The role supports a safe, dependable, and quality-controlled delivery service for the laboratory by providing accurate and customer-focused transportation services, managing risk, and maintaining operational continuity.
Primary Responsibilities
- Plan and adhere to approved routes, delivery priorities, and collection schedules.
- Confirm package details, handover, and delivery information at each transfer point.
- Maintain custody chain, specimen security, and required temperature conditions during transport.
- Monitor transit progress and promptly escalate any delays, missed pickups, or deviations.
- Conduct daily checks of vehicle, coolers, and transport equipment to ensure optimal condition.
- Keep accurate records of routes, temperatures, deliveries, and incidents.
- Comply with CAP and ISO 15189 quality standards affecting laboratory specimens and support services.
- Apply road safety, infection control, and confidentiality protocols consistently.
- Support urgent transport requests and ensure continuity in routing.
- Complete all required training and competency assessments; participate in audits and improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, and respectful customer interaction at all times.
Key Performance Indicators
- Achieve at least 95% on-time delivery within approved targets.
- Maintain at least 98% accuracy and traceability, avoiding specimen loss or misidentification.
- Complete 100% of required quality and safety controls.
- Meet or exceed 95% compliance in documentation audits.
- Fulfill 100% completion of mandatory training and competency requirements.
- Report all incidents promptly within required timelines.
- Ensure 100% completion or escalation of scheduled resource readiness checks.
- Close 100% of assigned improvement actions by their due dates.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant qualifications and experience appropriate to the courier/driver role.
- Familiarity with operational systems, procedures, safety regulations, and documentation protocols.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, accuracy, and clear communication with stakeholders.
- Valid active driving license within the UAE.
Preferred Experience
- Background in healthcare, diagnostic laboratories, or regulated service environments.
- Training in quality assurance, safety, supervision, or relevant technical fields.
- Experience with digital workflows and systems such as LIS, RIS/PACS, ERP, or tracking technologies.
