About the Role

Cairn is seeking a Cost Planner to support quantity surveying services under the guidance of the Senior Cost Planner, primarily focused on pre-contract duties. This multifaceted position involves analyzing project data and calculating planned work volumes to help project construction costs for all stages of Cairn’s landmark Seven Mills development. The role plays an essential part in informing decisions throughout acquisition and design development phases, accompanied by flexible working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing cost plans spanning from feasibility studies to detailed planning ready for project handover.
  • Participate actively in design team meetings during design phases and communicate updates to the Senior Cost Planner.
  • Ensure the design team remains aware of the most efficient unit configurations, project layouts, and building materials through consistent information reporting.
  • Collaborate with the cost planning team and utilize benchmarking data from live projects to develop accurate budgets.
  • Work alongside sales teams to align specifications and budgets with market expectations.
  • Support quantity take-offs to produce Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for upcoming projects and interpret these to generate working documents and budgets for site teams.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a Cairn construction costs database aiding ongoing cost estimation and financial analysis.
  • Assist in preparing Part V regulatory applications to Local Authorities and monitor submissions to ensure compliance.
  • Engage with PQS consultants to prepare BoQs for budget alignment, ensuring the consultants have current information.
  • Attend relevant meetings and perform site visits as required.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess a minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience working with a PQS or developer.
  • Demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines and quality standards effectively.
  • Exhibit strong IT proficiency, particularly with Buildsoft-Cubit, Cost-ex or similar software, alongside Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Be open to ongoing training for skill and knowledge enhancement.
  • Have solid analytical abilities and be capable of presenting insights clearly.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Be precise, detail-oriented, and accurate in work.
  • Show aptitude for teamwork and collaboration across different organizational levels.
  • Be self-driven with an ability to work independently.
  • Manage multiple tasks through effective time management.
  • Be responsible for completing assigned duties.
