Role Overview

IO Interactive is on the lookout for an experienced Core Engine Programmer to become a pivotal member of our Engine team. This role offers the chance to contribute significantly to the technical foundation of ambitious upcoming games, shaping the future of our proprietary Glacier engine across multiple high-profile projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and sustain core engine systems such as entity management, resource handling, and overall engine infrastructure.
  • Lead the enhancement and evolution of the Glacier engine to support current and future game development efforts.
  • Produce clean, maintainable, and robust C++ code to underpin multiple titles across various console generations.
  • Optimize performance and memory usage with a focus on scalability and respecting platform-specific constraints.
  • Create, implement, and maintain profiling and diagnostic tools to foster a studio-wide culture of performance excellence.
  • Collaborate closely with the Technical Director and Engine team to define and maintain the technical roadmap.
  • Contribute to platform expansion by porting core systems to new technologies and hardware.
  • Mentor junior team members and promote knowledge sharing throughout technical departments.
  • Enforce and improve coding standards and best practices throughout the studio.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in engine programming using C++.
  • Contributed as an Engine Programmer to at least one AAA video game shipped to market.
  • Strong expertise in algorithms, data structures, memory management, and handling multithreaded environments.
  • Highly skilled in diagnosing and resolving complex, multi-system bugs within large codebases.
  • Experience in console game development with an understanding of platform-specific limitations.
  • Proven capacity to break down engineering tasks, estimate effort, and evaluate work scopes effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills suitable for collaboration within an internationally distributed team.
