Job description

Role overview

The Controller will oversee the day-to-day activities of the Operations Executive team and ensure that every planned crane and yard move is backed by the right equipment and manpower. The role is focused on using terminal resources efficiently to deliver the expected productivity targets.

Key responsibilities

  • On vessel arrival and berthing, allocate and activate quay cranes and deploy the necessary equipment for operations.
  • Plan equipment allocation by considering assigned cranes, planned crane moves, and pre-planned grounding and loading stacks.
  • Assign equipment for heavy blocks and monitor those operations closely.
  • Keep a close watch on delivery and receiving blocks, and work with the Ops Supervisor to reduce yard congestion.
  • Track truck turnaround time carefully to meet the assigned KPI.
  • Improve equipment usage in the yard to help lower fuel costs.
  • Monitor customs-related work such as clearing and laydown, as well as scanning activity, to keep cargo flow smooth.
  • Continuously review crane sequencing with the Vessel Planner and Yard Planner, and take immediate corrective action if any conflict arises.
  • Coordinate with the Reefer Technician during loading and discharge activities.
  • Allocate P.O.W. to operators in an effective way to support productivity.
  • Prepare a shift monitoring report for each shift.
  • Maintain an hourly moves report with the goal of achieving 35 moves per hour per crane.
  • Record and report any incident or accident details to the immediate superior without delay.
  • Ensure full compliance with SOPs to support safe terminal operations.

Working conditions

This role operates in an office environment.

Skills and knowledge

  • Strong understanding of container terminal operations, including vessel, yard, and customs processes.
  • Working knowledge of Navis Sparc and N4.
  • Experience with terminal operating systems (TOS).

Experience requirement

A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required.

Education requirement

A college or bachelor’s degree is required.
