Overview

Vertiv is looking for a driven Contract Management Specialist to join its Commercial Department. This role requires a hands-on approach, focusing on identifying, preparing, and claiming Change Orders for active projects, as well as handling customer disputes and claims. The specialist will support project delivery teams by providing daily commercial and contractual assistance during project execution phases.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the Electrical and/or Mechanical construction fields, hold a relevant degree, and demonstrate strong contractual knowledge and excellent communication skills. This position is based in Burnfoot, County Donegal, Ireland, with potential flexibility to work from the Zagreb office in Croatia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Detect and monitor change events and scope variations early across assigned projects.
  • Support the preparation and justification of Change Order submissions with full commercial and quantitative details.
  • Ensure all change notifications meet contractual timing requirements to safeguard entitlements.
  • Maintain accurate records and trackers for Change Orders, providing frequent updates to teams and management.
  • Manage Change Orders through negotiation and resolution of valuation disputes with clients.
  • Assist Project Managers in evaluating client instructions and scope changes to confirm entitlement to Change Orders.
  • Prepare and submit extension of time requests when project timelines are affected.
  • Serve as the primary commercial contact on Change Order and claims-related matters for Project Managers during execution.
  • Offer daily advice on contractual notifications, entitlements, and commercial risks to project teams.
  • Clarify key contractual obligations and timelines related to variations and claims for Project Managers.
  • Collaborate with planning teams to understand programme impacts and support time-related claims.
  • Assist in monthly valuations and payment application preparations, ensuring all approved Change Orders are properly documented and valued.
  • Contribute to commercial project reviews with clear reporting on Change Order statuses, values, and recovery progress.
  • Manage and respond to disputes, back-charges, and contra-charges with detailed technical and commercial evaluation.
  • Craft clear, well-structured written responses to client claims outlining the company’s contractual stance.
  • Defend against unjustified charges by compiling comprehensive evidence including records and correspondence.
  • Engage directly with clients to negotiate resolutions professionally and collaboratively.
  • Support preparing formal claims where disputes cannot be amicably resolved.
  • Keep detailed audit trails and records to uphold the company’s position on contested matters.

Candidate Profile

  • Three to five years’ experience in commercial, contract management, or quantity surveying within construction or engineering, preferably involving Mechanical and/or Electrical projects.
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Law, Engineering, Commercial Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in preparing and managing Change Orders and variations on construction or engineering projects.
  • Experienced in handling customer disputes, back-charges, and claims.
  • Strong grasp of contractual notification procedures and their real-world application.
  • Self-driven individual able to work independently and foster strong relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing, analytical, and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written, capable of drafting clear and structured contractual correspondence.
  • Proficient in ERP systems, document management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
