Role Overview

We are looking to hire a full-time Construction Estimator based in Calgary to join our team. This role involves preparing and reviewing cost estimates for different construction projects, working closely with project managers, and scrutinizing drawings and specifications to deliver precise and competitive bids.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare quotes and design proposals for management, including for service calls and new project initiatives.
• Identify and select highly qualified subcontractors; request and evaluate competitive pricing for tender submissions.
• Analyze tender drawings comprehensively, commenting on designs, schedules, potential cost reductions, and construction-related challenges.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, tender walks, and industry conferences.
• Create detailed and accurate estimates covering materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and construction facility costs.
• Develop and review subcontractor work scopes, and assess contractor bids to ensure best value for the company.
• Maintain close relationships with subcontractors and suppliers, updating and expanding the Master Tender List as necessary.
• Organize and submit bids to management punctually and thoroughly.
• Present cost estimates supporting client proposals, accounting for routine and exceptional conditions.
• Prepare project bid status reports ensuring all specifications, contractual terms, statements of work, and bid invitations are strictly met.

Qualifications

• At least two years of experience in construction estimating within general contracting in Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) sectors, including retail, restaurant, commercial, or industrial projects.
• Experience with ground-up construction projects is a plus.
• Proficient with estimating software tools such as Planswift along with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong understanding of construction materials, methods, and estimation techniques.
• Skilled in analyzing and interpreting construction drawings and specification documents.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
