Consents Officer

About the Role

Environment Southland oversees the stewardship of the region's natural and physical resources under the Resource Management Act 1991. By joining as a Consents Officer, you will contribute to supporting sustainable environmental outcomes across the whenua, wai, and taiao of Southland. This key position involves assessing, investigating, and processing a broad range of resource consent applications alongside other application types, recommending decisions to delegated authorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and process resource consent applications in compliance with the Resource Management Act 1991, council policies, plans, and delegations.
• Provide accessible advice and information to both the public and internal teams concerning the consents process and applicable legislation.
• Build and nurture strong connections with various external and internal stakeholders.
• Support the delivery and implementation of the council's strategic initiatives.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will hold prior experience as a consents officer or a relevant tertiary qualification in environmental management or planning disciplines. Essential qualities include being highly self-driven, solution-oriented, and possessing excellent communication skills. Experience working with diverse communities and stakeholders, including displaying cultural competency with iwi and hapū for meaningful engagement, is crucial. Creativity, relationship-building, and outstanding customer service competencies are expected.

• Remuneration will be offered within the range of $84,420 to $89,110 annually.
