Compliance Officer

About the Role

We are looking for a seasoned compliance expert to become part of our tight-knit Compliance Assessment Team within the Reef Joint Field Management Program, dedicated to the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. This is an office-based position contributing to a program jointly supported by the Australian and Queensland Governments.

This team plays a crucial role in administrative support for investigations and field operations across the Great Barrier Reef Coast Marine Park (State) and Island National Parks (State), components of the World Heritage Area.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate reported offences within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area and conduct related administrative work.
• Accurately enter data into multiple databases, performing quality checks to maintain data integrity and reliability.
• Extract, monitor, and report data from compliance, vessel tracking, and other internal systems to identify violations, trends, and support surveillance and investigative efforts.
• Support roles such as Exhibit Officer and Accountable Documents Officer by managing legal evidence, documentation, and auditing of accountable books associated with court proceedings.
• Contribute to various general team assignments, including project assistance and training participation.
• Effectively liaise and collaborate with both internal team members and external stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

• Excellent ability to manage pressure, maintain attention to detail, and prioritize among competing demands.
• Skillful in administrative duties like drafting correspondence, handling spreadsheets and databases, including query construction and data extraction.
• Possess or quickly develop knowledge of environmental compliance frameworks and enforcement methods.
• Capability to comprehend and implement legislation and policy effectively.
• Demonstrated sound judgement and decision-making aptitude.
• A team player who thrives in a collaborative environment.
