Job description
Role Overview
This is a fixed-term, full-time position until 12 January 2029 located in Mangawhai or Dargaville. The Communications Advisor will work closely with the Mayor to deliver clear, authentic, and timely communications across various platforms, playing a key role in connecting the community with local government and supporting the Council's vision.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce engaging communications content representing the Mayor.
- Create social media, digital, and written materials that resonate with diverse community audiences.
- Prepare speeches, presentations, media statements, and core messaging.
- Identify and manage media opportunities proactively.
- Participate in community and council events to gather and craft stories.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with media, stakeholders, and internal teams.
- Contribute to proactive communication efforts showcasing Council's initiatives and priorities.
Candidate Profile
- Proficient communicator with excellent writing and editing capabilities, capable of tailoring messages for different audiences.
- Experienced in producing digital and social media content, including photography and short-form video.
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management abilities.
- Comfortable handling a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and managing competing priorities.
- Adaptable, detail-oriented, and proactive with a readiness to work outside regular hours for events and media engagements.
- Background in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related fields is required.
- Experience within local government or political settings is a plus but not mandatory.
