Position Overview

The Commissioning Engineer role focuses on leading pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup activities for large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. The engineer ensures a smooth and safe transition from construction to operational status, coordinating testing, schedules, and compliance with quality, safety, and regulations. The role requires bilingual fluency in Italian and English and is suited for those who thrive in hands-on field environments and are comfortable managing tasks independently.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning activities in collaboration with project stakeholders including construction managers, contractors, suppliers, and technical teams.
• Oversee the commissioning process through to commercial operation and handover to operations and maintenance teams.
• Manage comprehensive testing and acceptance of project networks, communication, control systems, balance of plant equipment such as relay protection, metering, HVAC, fire suppression, electrical systems, battery subsystems, and inverters.
• Conduct electricity market or off-taker qualification testing necessary for project commencement.
• Travel extensively across Europe (over 60%) to lead onsite commissioning and support project delivery and handover.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications.
• At least five years of relevant experience in commissioning or engineering roles.
• In-depth knowledge of battery storage systems, photovoltaic systems, inverter technologies, and low-to-medium voltage switchgear.
• Familiarity with battery energy storage standards and regulations including VDE, IEC, and IEEE.
• Strong motivation for professional growth and skill development.
• Effective communication and reporting skills in written and spoken English and Italian.
• Ability to influence stakeholders positively through initiative, constructive feedback, teamwork, decisiveness, and quality focus.
