Job Overview
The Commis II - Sushi Chef will be responsible for various culinary preparation tasks including chopping, portioning, and storing food ingredients, as well as preparing and cooking food in compliance with recipes and quality standards. This position is located at W Hotels in Doha, Qatar, within the Food and Beverage & Culinary department.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare ingredients for cooking including portioning, chopping, washing, and peeling fresh fruits and vegetables.
- Weigh, measure, mix, and cook ingredients according to specified recipes, presentation, and quality standards.
- Prepare cold dishes and operate kitchen appliances such as ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers safely and efficiently.
- Test foods to ensure proper cooking and monitor food quality throughout preparation.
- Set up and dismantle workstations as needed and serve food in appropriate portions on proper receptacles.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen areas, utensils, knives, and equipment regularly.
- Check and verify the correct temperature of appliances and prepared food items.
- Adhere strictly to all safety, security, and hygiene policies and report any maintenance or safety issues to management promptly.
- Maintain professional personal appearance and confidentiality of proprietary information.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues and contribute to a positive teamwork environment.
- Perform physical tasks such as standing, sitting, walking for long periods, and handling objects up to 25 pounds as required.
- Perform additional duties assigned by supervisors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum education level: High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
- At least 1 year of relevant work experience in food preparation or a similar culinary role.
- No supervisory experience required.
- No mandatory certifications or licenses.
