Job description
Role Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and disciplined Commis Chef to be part of our culinary team in Kolkata. This position involves assisting senior chefs with daily preparation work, executing cooking tasks on the service line, and upholding stringent hygiene and food safety standards. Ideal candidates include culinary graduates or junior cooks eager to enhance their cooking skills in a fast-moving kitchen setting.
Primary Duties
- Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, portioning vegetables, meats, sauces, and dry ingredients adhering to standardized recipes.
- Support food preparation during service by performing fundamental cooking activities such as grilling, frying, baking, sautéing, and accurately assembling orders.
- Maintain consistency and quality by following portion control, plating guidelines, and precise recipe instructions.
- Ensure cleanliness and food safety by practicing continuous sanitation at workstations, refrigeration areas, and on cookware.
- Manage inventory by applying FIFO stock rotation, labeling prep containers with dates, and informing senior chefs of low supplies or spoilage.
- Contribute to kitchen upkeep by assisting with opening/closing checklists including deep cleaning, surface sanitization, and waste disposal.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or diploma in Culinary Arts, Hotel Management, or comparable practical kitchen experience.
- Experience ranging from none to two years in a commercial kitchen, restaurant, or café; recent culinary graduates are encouraged to apply for Commis III positions.
- Proficiency in basic knife skills, foundational cooking methods, and food safety temperature awareness.
- Demonstrates punctuality, endurance for extended standing shifts, teamwork, and receptiveness to feedback during busy periods.
- Possession of basic Food Safety or FSSAI certification is advantageous.
