The role of Commercial Finance Manager / Business Controller is a key commercial finance position that serves as the financial conscience of the business unit. This position partners closely with operational leadership to influence performance and strategic decisions. The role is based in Hamilton, New Zealand.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate financial implications of business cases, costing simulations, and transactions to help senior management assess alternatives aligned with organizational goals.
- Develop standardized and timely reports on business performance.
- Conduct detailed variance analyses to identify and explain main drivers.
- Gather, verify and analyze financial data and economic indicators.
- Serve as the principal financial partner for Project and Sales teams, reporting to the Finance Director.
- Engage actively in financial planning and forecasting with variance analysis.
- Communicate clearly with confidence, demonstrating commercial curiosity and analytical skepticism.
- Drive continuous improvements in financial reporting, processes, and controls by identifying inefficiencies and implementing effective enhancements.
- Collaborate across finance, projects, sales, and operations to influence outcomes, align financial discipline with commercial goals, and support achievement of business results.
- Adhere to financial policies, procedures, controls and governance; promptly report and escalate compliance risks and issues.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Economics or Finance.
- Have approximately five years of experience in comparable finance roles, preferably within multinational corporations.
- Demonstrate high flexibility along with strong analytical and attention-to-detail skills.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, Business Objects, and Power BI.
- Experience working with SAP or equivalent ERP systems.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
