About the Role

The Colorist / Merchandiser for Product Development plays a crucial role in overseeing the complete colour development lifecycle, managing approvals for fabrics, garments, and trims from initial concept stages through to bulk manufacturing. This position focuses on ensuring precise colour reproduction by working closely with suppliers, quality assurance teams, and the company headquarters while safeguarding data accuracy, deadlines, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead new colour creation efforts, including effective communication, lab dip evaluation, and sign-off processes.
  • Generate and manage colour reflectance measurements and QTX files, distributing these to relevant suppliers and head office.
  • Establish and communicate colour depth benchmarks and quadrant arrangements to both suppliers and HQ teams.
  • Provide approved lab dip formulation details to suppliers to maintain consistency across production.
  • Collaborate with suppliers regarding garment-dyed colour development projects.
  • Use, upkeep, and calibrate instruments measuring colour to ensure accurate data capture.
  • Assess mini bulk samples visually and via colour data against fabric quality standards, following checklists, and approve accordingly.
  • Keep detailed records updated in the Mini Bulk Master File and ensure signed approval documentation is supplied to suppliers.
  • Maintain organized records both physically and digitally for all mini bulk approvals.
  • Work alongside the Quality department to update and replace expired mini bulk standard references, also managing renewal schedules.
  • Perform comparative cross-checks on first bulk shades using colour data systems when requested by quality control or suppliers.
  • Oversee the development and approval of labels, packaging, and finishing accessories in partnership with suppliers and HQ.
  • Examine trim cards procured from manufacturing facilities, fulfilling approval requirements and dispatching signed approvals.
  • Coordinate closely with factories concerning lab dip submissions, fabric quality, trims, and mini bulk handling.
  • Maintain prompt, clear, and professional communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Organize the shipment of lab dips, mini bulk samples, and accessories to headquarters.
  • Monitor parcel shipping to guarantee punctual arrival and proper documentation.
  • Assist in special projects or tasks assigned by the line manager.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess an educational background in Textiles.
  • Have between 5 to 7 years of practical experience in colour development.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of colour science and how colour behaves across different fabric types.
  • Be proficient in English and Tamil languages.

  • Deep understanding of product attributes, especially how colour interacts with fabrics.
  • Excellent analytical thinking alongside strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • High competency in Microsoft Excel and solid computer literacy.
  • Effective team player with a collaborative work approach.
