Job description
Role Summary and Responsibilities
The Coastal Engineer position requires an individual ideally with around 15 years of background in coastal development projects involving the design of features like sea walls, earth embankments, and revetments. Experience with the design or implementation of navigational locks and storm surge barriers is highly preferred.
This role involves comprehensive study and design of coastal protection solutions, coordination and consultation with relevant regulatory bodies to secure all required statutory approvals, and the integration of innovative and sustainable coastal defense approaches.
Qualifications and Expertise
Candidates are expected to hold at least a pertinent university degree or an equivalent credential approved by the governing Board. A strong understanding of climate change impacts, especially extreme rainfall, sea level changes, and storm surges, is considered essential.
Familiarity with multi-purpose flood protection infrastructure that includes community amenities, the incorporation of natural and hybrid protection methods (such as blending seawalls with mangrove ecosystems), and adoption of internationally developed coastal protection innovations is necessary for this role.
