Job description
Role overview
J D Wetherspoon is hiring a Cleaner for The Bell Hanger in Chepstow, Wales. This is an on-site full-time position focused on keeping the pub spotless and contributing to a positive customer experience.

The role offers £12.91 per hour. The closing date for applications is 20-06-2026. The post has 8 working hours per week, with shifts listed from 6:00 to 8:00 every day from Monday through Sunday.
What kind of person fits this role
The company is looking for upbeat, motivated, and enthusiastic people who bring a positive attitude, are willing to learn, and can stay composed when things get busy. Previous experience is not required. The role may suit someone seeking either a long-term path or occasional extra shifts, provided they are dependable, friendly, and comfortable working with others.
Pay, benefits and extras
- Competitive hourly pay
- Free meal and drink while on duty
- 20% discount on food, drinks, and hotel stays for you and up to three guests when off duty
- Additional £1 per hour for work completed between midnight and 5:59am
- Bonus scheme with earnings of up to 19% of pay
- Choice of guaranteed-hours or variable-hours contracts
- Paid holiday entitlement
- Free shares after the qualifying period
- Loyalty rewards programme
What the job involves
The main aim of this role is to clean all pub areas thoroughly and maintain consistently high standards of cleanliness so customers have a better experience. Because the pubs trade from early morning until late at night, the schedule can include mornings, evenings, weekends, and late finishes.
Day-to-day duties
- Keep customer areas, toilets, the bar, kitchen, staff spaces, and outdoor areas clean and tidy
- Carry out daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks according to standard operating procedures
- Use cleaning products and equipment safely and correctly
- Track cleaning stock and inform the manager when supplies need replenishing
- Escalate maintenance problems and pest-control concerns to the manager on duty
- Interact courteously with customers, including greeting them and saying thank you and goodbye
- Complete induction, job-specific, and ongoing refresher training, while supporting continuous improvement
Development and progression
Wetherspoon says many of its team leaders and managers started in kitchen or bar roles. Training and progression support may include structured on-the-job learning, apprenticeships, management academies, cross-training across bar, kitchen, and hotel areas, and routes into team-leader and shift-leader positions and beyond.
Inclusion and other notes
The employer states that it promotes an inclusive workplace and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds, preferences, and beliefs. The role may not be appropriate for under-18s because of the shift pattern and lone working. If the application volume is high, the vacancy may close earlier than planned. Other roles, such as front-of-house and kitchen positions, may also be available.
